In The End It’s About What You Want: The Un-Wedding Show

IN THE END IT’S ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT - The essence of The Un-Wedding Show since forever. Painted by Bee Davies Illustration.

Written by Melissa Woods

The Un-Wedding Show has always been a celebration of inclusivity, creativity, and inspiration for modern couples who don’t always see themselves reflected in the wedding industry. It’s not about showcasing ‘businesses’… it’s more about showcasing the people and the talent behind those businesses. We are forever humbled by the individuals that our events attract - the independent wedding suppliers, and the modern couples who are putting their personalities over traditions, and planning a wedding that feels true to them.

Melissa Woods, founder of The Un-Wedding Show is tweaking a table setting at Kachette for The Un-Wedding Show. There is some pink draping and a yellow flower installation on the wall, and a window behind her that has been painted

On the 18th and 19th October, we took over one of our favourite unique wedding venues in East London, Kachette on Old Street with a curation of 30 independent wedding suppliers, all hand-picked for our modern couples.

Our guests were welcomed through the doors into our sun-filled, Spotlight room with beautiful styling in a happiness-inducing colour pallette, designed to celebrate issue 2 of MNT Magazine.

Book Of Love Directory babe, Bee Davies Illustration, adorned the statement windows with our brand new ‘MNT’ logo… (RIP The Un-Wedding)… and the message that has always been at the heart of The Un-Wedding and will live on in Make New Traditions - ‘IN THE END IT’S ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT’… sounds so simple, and yet, so many people lose themselves in the whole wedding planning process because they’re trying so hard to please everyone else.

Fellow Book Of Love Directory member, and stylist extraodinaire, Janie - Orange Tree Weddings, softened the ambience with elegant draping throughout the historical venue. And the lovely Hannah - The Brighton Florist, brought everything to life with joyous, poppy florals… accidentally inspiring a whole new trend of pink cauliflowers… you saw it here first!

Is that a bit of broccoli we can see? Damn right it is! A lovely addition from The Brighton Florist

All attendees were greeted with a welcome drink to kick start the celebrations, and those who came on the Saturday would have been lucky enough to grab a slice our our delicious, strawberry milkshake cake, made by Paget from Scholar’s Cakes.

The best thing about The Un-Wedding Show

Without doubt, the best thing about The Un-Wedding Show is always the atmosphere and energy that comes from our community of modern lovers, and amazing wedding suppliers - who go to extreme lengths to surprise and delight with their talents and offerings.

Our mission is to put the ‘party’ into your wedding planning, which is why you’ll always find a DJ spinning some dreamy tunes from behind a dreamy booth.

This time around, our booth was supplied by Book Of Love Directory member, and all-round-disco-diva, Aisha of My Colour Is Gold. Aisha is your ‘go to’ girl for show-stopping prop hire and wedding decor. We styled the booth with a textured, floral meadow from Hannah, The Brighton Florist, to inspire our couples whilst making it super-spesh for our DJ’s - husband and wife duo - Mr and Mrs L

We LOVE when married couples set up their own wedding business after their own wedding, cos that’s what we did! Chris and Janeen kept the vibe high, and the party going, all weekend! You’ll find them listed in the Book Of Love Directory, so you can hit them up for some non-cheesy, wedding music at your own Un-Wedding.

New Ideas for your Modern Wedding

One thing is for sure, you can always rely on our creative suppliers to bring something new to the table at The Un-Wedding Show. Our creative wedding suppliers are famed for starting trends, as opposed to following the.

Here are some of my personal favourite discoveries from the event:

  1. The Lavender Lounge Instant Portraits

Firstly, I’m OB.SESSED with Lavender Haze Weddings, the Aussie photo and film makers who radiate good energy in abundance! This is exactly what you want at your wedding - suppliers that you would be happily go to the pub with, right?

As if having your wedding photography and Super 8 Film all taken care of, isn’t a sweet enough deal:

Remember: You get a FREE Super 8 Film worth £900 when you book any of their packages by the end of November 2025!

They also have the coolest add on service that you lovers went crazy for at The Un-Wedding Show - The Lavender Lounge Instant Portraits, something we’ve never seen before because no one else is doing it!

There’s something way more personal and editorial about these beautifully lit, magnetic photo portraits - imagine treating your guests to this experience at your wedding - a gorgeous memento of your special day.

2. Pop Up Fabric Flower Vases by Megan Crook Textiles

I absolutely loved these 2d flower vases made from offcuts of Megan’s signature fabrics. You can buy them individually from £12.99, or in sets of 3, and I think they’d be a unique addition to any wedding tablescape!

Best of all, they’re gonna live on, long after your wedding as a great addition to your home.

Nottingham-based, Megan, has also been working on a unique wedding collection for those of you who LOVE colour, and texture

3. Colourful Wedding Photography Albums from Jordanna Marston

Book Of Love Directory member, Jordanna Marston, is not shy of a bit of colour. Her branding and photography style SCREAM ‘personality’, so it’s not surprising that her wedding photo albums are on point too. I mean, we’ve come a long way since burgundy pleather, right?

Take it from someone who doesn’t even know where their dusty old wedding album is - choose an album that you’ll be proud to have on your shelf! That way, you can relive the day whenever you want.

4. Fruit and Veg Floral Combos

Psssst… there is a cute, creative, and sustainable way to make your wedding floral budget stretch a bit further, without losing impact… good old fruit and veg!

Actually, we’ve been enjoying this trend for a while but The Brighton Florists introduction to the pink cauliflower, levelled the whole thing up - and out attendees went wild for this simple touch.

In fact, Hannah used fruit and veg in a range of ways throughout the weekend and we are here for the fresh wedding inspiration, and the fresh produce!

5. Edible Guest Book by Scholars Cakes

We got tired of traditional wedding guest books that no one ever writes in. And along came the idea of cool audio guest books that people could record voice messages on.

Introducing… The Edible Audio Guest Book by the lovely Paget from Scholars Cakes! A wedding cake that your guests can write on before you take it home and eat it!

Our attendees had such fun with this, and we think your guests will too!
