A bridesmaid sold her dress days after the wedding, and the internet lost its mind.

Sell the dress , babe. We're firmly on your side.

Who doesn’t love a celebrity wedding? The glitz, the glam, the star-studded guest list, and of course — the gossip.

This week, one of Venezuela Fury's eighteen bridesmaids, Libby Peate, (yes that’s 18… and why not?) listed her bespoke, hand-beaded gown on Vinted less than five days after the wedding. She posted playfully on Tik Tok that she was "super broke” and could do with the cash. Her actions have created quite the divide of opinion but if you wanna know what we think, we think: go for it, girl!

Looking at the expensive dress, it’s definitely NOT been made to wear-again, easily. So, why leave it sitting in the wardrobe for years when someone else might relish the chance to wear it for another wedding. And if the people who matter don’t mind, why should anyone else have an issue with it?

Event the bride’s mum, Paris Fury said:

"I told her to go for it. She can't exactly wear it again."

Libby’s decision to sell the dress finally says something out load, that we’ve been saying for years:

The one-wear problem with traditional bridesmaids dresses

Traditional bridesmaid dresses are designed to wear once. Chosen for you, and often made for you. They are usually in a colour that worked for the wedding, not necessarily for you. And then you’re stuck with it taking up space at the back of your wardrobe for years until enough time has passed for you to you quietly, and sheepishly, get rid of it.

Venezuala Fury commissioned a talented seamstress to make her dresses, and each dress served its original purpose beautifully. Selling it isn't tacky, or an act of betrayal. It just makes sense that the dress gets another chance.

Sell the dress!

The bridesmaid dress that never ends up on Vinted

Here’s how it works.

If a dress is designed to be worn once, it probably will be. And then that poor frock will be forgotten about in some dusty attic, resold... eventually, when the coast is clear, or donated in years to come when it’s so old, it’s only suitable for fancy dress purposes. That’s a real shame, don’t you think?

Which is exactly why we've been championing Rewritten London since the beginning. They've been proud members of our Book of Love directory from almost day one, and there's a reason for that.

Founded by two best friends, Katie Arnott and Frances Cookson, who were frustrated when they couldn't find bridesmaid dresses they'd actually want to wear again. So they made them.

Rewritten’s entire ethos is built on one belief: all bridesmaid dresses should be loved enough to wear worn more than once.

Their dresses are designed in London, sampled in their East London workshop, made from sustainable and recycled fabrics, including recycled satin and bamboo, and come in inclusive sizes 8 to 22. Their colours are varied and unique to them, dyed to their exact specifications. Rewritten is the label that changed the perception of bridesmaid dresses, making them stylish, and cool, and something you can’t wait to wear again and again. Holidays, Christmas, date nights, a Rewritten dress doesn't stay at the back of the wardrobe because there's nowhere to wear it. It goes everywhere.

That's not just a better experience for your bridesmaids. It's a more sustainable choice. Fewer wasted garments. Less fabric destined for landfill or a controversial Vinted listing before the confetti has settled.
