Why Gen Z and Millennials Couples in the UK & Ireland are Choosing Multi-Day Wedding Celebrations
Modern wedding details: statement sunglasses, jewellery, and champagne - the ultimate checklist for your multi-day wedding celebration.

When Charli XCX and The 1975’s George Daniel tied the knot… again… in Sicily, they weren’t just making headlines - they were reflecting a wider shift in how modern couples approach weddings.
Multi-day celebrations and even double weddings are on the rise, especially among Gen Z and Millennials who want something more immersive and short-lived than the traditional one-day event.
A shift towards longer celebrations
According to data from Bridebook’s 2025 UK Wedding Report, around one-third of Millennial (36%) and Gen Z (34%) couples are now planning weddings that last more than a single day. These extended celebrations often include extras like welcome dinners, garden parties, or next-day brunches - designed to give couples more time with friends and family.
Hamish Shephard, Bridebook’s founder, says:
“Multi-day weddings are becoming increasingly popular, particularly among younger couples. After years of disruption - from the pandemic to the cost-of-living crisis - couples are embracing the chance to gather loved ones for longer, more immersive celebrations.”
And here at MNT, I have to say - “budget-permitting - we are here for it!” cos let’s face it - the longer the celebration, the more money it’s gonna cost which means - this trend won’t be for everyone… although I’m sure you could find ways to milk it without breaking the bank for you, and others.
The rise of the split ceremony
Bridebook’s research also found that 1 in 7 UK couples already separate their legal ceremony from the main celebration. A registry office wedding followed by a bigger party allows for:
More venue flexibility - from backyard weddings to destination venues not licensed for legal ceremonies.
Budget control - with the option to book off-peak or midweek.
Greater personalisation - giving couples the freedom to shape the day without restrictions.
What this means for modern couples
While pop-royalty weddings like Charli XCX’s dominate headlines, the trend isn’t limited to celebrities. Across the UK and Ireland, couples are increasingly rethinking tradition, blending practical choices with a desire for celebrations that feel personal and meaningful.
At MNT, we know this part of a wider movement: weddings shaped less by “traditions” and more by what makes the day feel right for each couple.
