Creative Productivity Tips for Wedding Suppliers
A clean, bright desk space featuring a large stack of colourful business and productivity books, an open book with highlighted text, a fluffy grey throw on a mustard chair, and a mug of tea on a cork coaster. This creative setup evokes inspiration and focus, making it the perfect representation of how modern wedding suppliers in the UK or Ireland can get organised and stay productive at home.
Productivity doesn’t have to feel corporate. You’re a creative. You run a business that’s built on connection, emotion, and originality. And you probably didn’t start your wedding business because you loved spreadsheets and back-to-back meetings. I know I didn’t.
I’m Melissa Woods, founder of MNT (formerly The Un-Wedding), and I know firsthand what it’s like to juggle this whole thing - running a creative business, raising a family, and trying to find some kind of rhythm in the chaos.
If you’re a wedding photographer, florist, celebrant, designer, or any other kind of creative supplier, these tips are made for you. I’m not going to tell you to “wake up at 5am” (even though I often do… that’s my choice). But you will find a few things that have helped me stay focused without losing my creative spark.
1. Work With Your Energy, Not Against It
If you’re at your sharpest in the morning, that’s when you should be editing, designing, or planning. Save admin or emails for when your brain starts to melt a little. This will be different for everyone. I used to work late into the evenings, but in recent years, I found myself to be less productive at this time, and I started to resent the work I was doing, so I’ve stopped. Personally, I’m better in the mornings, but you’ll know what works best for you.
Take note of your energy highs and lows over the course of a week and try to structure your tasks around them. That way, you’re not constantly pushing uphill.
2. Make Creative Tasks Easier to Start
You don’t need to wait for a lightning bolt of inspiration. Try starting with a 10-minute timer. Tell yourself you only need to work on something for 10 minutes. Chances are, once you start, you’ll keep going. It’s like tricking yourself but in a good way!
Starting is usually the hardest part, especially with blog posts, price guides, or anything that needs a bit of brainpower, so make it easy on yourself.
3. Mix Up Your Environment
Working from home is great, but staring at the same four walls can start to induce cabin fever. Try working from a coffee shop, co-working space or even the park with a notebook. Sometimes a change of scene is all it takes to feel inspired again.
4. Use Creative Tools That Actually Help
Pinterest isn’t just for moodboards. Use it to collect visual inspiration that can help you plan out new services or offerings. Canva makes design tasks a dream, I’ve used for the last 10 years in my business and I honestly could not function without it. Notion, Trello and scheduling apps like Planoly and Later are invaluable when it comes to your productivity output.
Find tools that feel fun to use. That’s when you’ll actually use them.
5. Schedule Creative Time (Just Like Meetings)
Block out time in your calendar for things like sketching, brainstorming, or planning your next shoot concept. If it’s not scheduled, it’ll get bumped by admin. And admin is never where your magic lives.
You’re allowed to protect time for the stuff that makes your business special. In fact, you need to.
6. Give Yourself Permission to Rest
I’ll hold my hands up and say that I’ve not always been great at this. Weirdly, I always feel guilty if I rest. Crazy huh?! But you can’t pour from an empty cup. I’ve learned that over and over while raising my kids and building MNT. Rest isn’t the reward - it’s the reset. So go for that walk with your pal, put your phone down, and take a nap if you need to.
A rested brain is a more creative one. That’s literally science.
You don’t have to choose between productivity and creativity. You can do both - in a way that feels good, makes sense, and supports your business.
And if you want to be part of a community that gets it, we’d love to welcome you to the Book of Love. Because one of the most productive things you can do is put your business in an arena where couples are looking for suppliers just like you!
